What this is: An Airworthiness Directive (AD) — a mandatory safety order issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority that requires aircraft owners to fix a specific defect.

What it does: It requires owners of Piper PA-20 (Pacer) aeroplanes to modify their wing fuel tank caps, but only if the cap was replaced after 1 June 1976 with either:

Part number 15296-02, OR
Part number 60707-02 (modified according to Piper Service Bulletin No. 522)

What you must do: If your aircraft has one of these caps, you must complete the modification described in Piper Service Bulletin No. 573 within 100 hours of flight time after 31 May 1978.

Why it matters: This addresses a safety defect with specific fuel tank caps that could cause fuel leaks, ventilation problems, or fire hazards.
