Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does

This is a safety order (called an Airworthiness Directive) that requires owners of Partenavia P68 aircraft to install physical barriers—guards—at each end of the overhead switch panel. These guards stop the sun visor from accidentally bumping the magneto switches (the ignition controls that keep the engine running).

Who it affects

Anyone who owns, operates, or maintains a Partenavia P68 series aeroplane.

Why it matters

If the sun visor knocks the ignition switches to the "off" position during flight, the engine could shut down unexpectedly. This simple physical modification prevents that potentially dangerous scenario.

When you must comply

For new aircraft: Install the guards before the Certificate of Airworthiness (C of A) is issued (for any aircraft certified after 28 February 1978).
For existing aircraft: Install the guards within 100 hours of flight time after 28 February 1978.
