Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: An Airworthiness Directive (mandatory safety instruction) for Partenavia P68 series aircraft regarding the longitudinal trim system — the controls that help keep the plane flying level without constant pressure on the stick.

What it requires: Aircraft owners or operators must inspect and adjust the stabilator trim system (the rear movable surface that controls pitch) according to the aircraft's Maintenance Manual specifications.

When to do it:

First check: Within 25 hours of flying time after 12 July 1989
Ongoing: Every 50 hours of flying time after that

Why it exists: These aircraft have a history of trim system problems. Testing by the safety authority found deficiencies that could affect flight safety. The directive ensures regular maintenance catches issues before they become dangerous.

AD/P68/32 Longitudinal Trim System 9/89 DM

Applicability: All models.

Requirement: Check the stabilator trim system and adjust as necessary to the requirements specified in the aircraft Maintenance Manual.

Compliance: Within 25 hours time in service after 12 July 1989 and thereafter every 50 hours time in service.

Background: This aircraft has a long history of trim related problems. Those and a recent Authority test programme have highlighted certain deficiencies within the trim system. Only a high level of maintenance integrity will ensure continued safe operation of the trim system in it’s current configuration. Further action is being discussed with the manufacturer.
