What this directive does

This is a mandatory safety rule for owners and operators of specific Italian-made aircraft — the Partenavia P68 and P68B models with serial numbers below 184.

What you must do

You must install an improved fuel pump cooling shroud (a protective cover that prevents the fuel pump from overheating) according to the manufacturer's instructions in Partenavia Service Bulletin No. 38, Revision 1.

Why it matters

The modification prevents fuel vapour locks — a dangerous condition where fuel boils and turns to vapour in the fuel lines during hot weather, potentially causing the engine to lose power or stall.

Compliance deadline

The work had to be completed within 100 hours of flight time after 31 January 1979. (While this date has passed, the directive remains legally binding for any affected aircraft still in operation that have not yet been modified.)
