What this directive requires

This is an Airworthiness Directive — a mandatory aviation safety order — requiring owners of specific gyroplanes to install a protective heat shield.

Who is affected

Owners and operators of all Aero Resources Model J2 Series Gyroplanes.

The safety requirement

You must attach an aluminium cover plate to the cabin 'A' frame (the structural frame supporting the cockpit). This plate acts as a heat shield to protect the cabin lining from burning or melting if the engine access cover overheats during an engine fire. The installation must follow a scheme approved by the Secretary (the senior government official responsible for aviation safety).

Why this matters

Without this shield, an engine fire could heat the metal engine cover to temperatures high enough to ignite or damage the cabin interior, creating a serious risk to occupants.

Compliance deadline

The modification had to be completed before 30 November 1975.
