Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What it is: A mandatory safety directive (Airworthiness Directive) issued under the Civil Aviation Regulations requiring specific aircraft owners to fix a dangerous electrical fault.

What it does: Orders owners of certain Mooney M20J and M20K aeroplanes to repair a wiring defect that prevents the overvoltage warning light from working. This light alerts pilots when the aircraft's 24V DC electrical system voltage climbs too high.

Who it affects: Owners of:

Mooney M20J aircraft with serial numbers 24-3000 through 24-3122
Mooney M20K aircraft with serial numbers 25-1000 through 25-1213

What must be done: Follow the repair instructions in Mooney Aircraft Service Bulletin M20-245 before 30 November 1990.

Why it matters: Without this warning light, pilots receive no alert if the electrical system overcharges, risking damage to avionics and potential in-flight electrical failures.
