Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What it is: This is a mandatory safety instruction (called an Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority requiring specific Mooney aircraft owners to inspect a fuel system component.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of specific Mooney aeroplanes:

Model M20F: Serial numbers 22-1430 to 22-1439
Model M20J: Multiple specific serial number ranges (24-0006 to 24-0083, 24-0085 to 24-0121, and others listed)

What you must do: Inspect the fuel tank finger strainer (a small filter that catches dirt and debris in the fuel line) to ensure it isn't clogged or damaged.

How to comply: Follow the procedures in Mooney Service Bulletin No. M20-207 (a technical instruction manual from the manufacturer).

Deadline: The inspection had to be completed before 1 December 1978.

Why it matters: A blocked fuel strainer can restrict fuel flow to the engine, potentially causing engine failure during flight.
