Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive is a mandatory safety notice issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for specific light aircraft.

Who it affects Owners and operators of Mooney M20-B and M20-C model aeroplanes with serial numbers between 1701 and 1884.

What you must do Inspect the nose gear legs (the front wheel strut assembly) for cracks at intervals no greater than every 100 hours of "time in service" (flight time).

Why it matters Unchecked cracks in landing gear can lead to catastrophic failure during landing or taxiing, potentially causing the nose wheel to collapse. This rule ensures potential structural damage is caught before it becomes dangerous.

Technical details The specific inspection procedure is found in Mooney Service Bulletin 20-87, which you must consult to perform the check correctly.
