Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This directive requires owners and operators of certain Mooney M20 aircraft to inspect their elevator trim tubes (the mechanical components that adjust the aircraft's pitch trim) to check for issues with nylon grommet bearings in the support structure.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of specific Mooney M20 model aircraft identified by serial number in a separate Requirement Document.

What you must do: Follow the inspection or maintenance instructions outlined in Aerostar Service Bulletin M20-185 within 100 hours of flying time after 31 October 1972.

Why it matters: The nylon grommet bearings in the trim tube support structure can develop faults that affect flight safety. This amendment (from October 1995) updates the original directive to clarify that it only applies to aircraft actually affected by this specific bearing issue, rather than all M20 models.
