Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety instruction (called an Airworthiness Directive) requiring owners of specific Mooney aircraft to inspect a critical part of their landing gear system.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of specific Mooney M20 aeroplanes with these serial numbers:

Model M20C: Serial numbers 3351 to 3466 and 470001
Model M20E: Serial numbers 1050 to 1308 and 670001
Model M20F: Serial numbers 660003 and 670001 to 670040

What you must do: Inspect the main landing gear retraction truss — the metal framework that folds the wheels up into the aircraft after takeoff. The inspection must follow the technical procedures in Mooney Service Bulletin M20-142.

When: Within 100 hours of flight time after 7 September 1967.

Why it matters: This check ensures the landing gear structure is sound and won't fail during landing, which could cause a crash.
