Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

Requires operators and maintenance organisations of Pratt & Whitney JT9D-series engines listed in FAA AD 2001-04-11 to perform the initial and recurring inspections of the first-stage high-pressure turbine disc, following the technical steps in FAA AD 2001-04-11 (revised effective 3 October 2002). CASA issued the directive under CAR 1998 subreg 39.1(1) after a crack was found in a disc cooling hole; operators pay inspection and scheduling costs and must alter maintenance practices to reduce the risk of uncontained engine failure and aircraft damage.
