This AD mandates replacement of certain 5th‑stage LPT vanes and 3rd–5th stage vane retention hardware on Pratt & Whitney JT9D‑7R4 engines, following FAA AD 96‑17‑11. It targets operators of those engines to prevent reported vane‑retention failures that led to uncontained engine events. Compliance (by the AD effective date) imposes parts, labour and downtime costs on engine owners.
