Plain English Summary

4/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive requires removal from service of specified compressor-rotor parts on listed Pratt & Whitney JT8D engine models, requires fitting certain replacement parts, and prohibits installing particular parts. The removal and replacement work must be done when the low‑pressure compressor (LPC) is next made accessible; the installation prohibition is effective immediately. CASA says the measure responds to two reports of uncontained turbine failures after fan/LPC separation. Airlines, maintenance organisations and parts suppliers must bear the costs and adjust maintenance planning and inventories.
