AD/JT8D/16 Amdt 2 - Second Stage Fan Blades - CANCELLED

What this does: This document officially cancels a previous aviation safety rule about Pratt & Whitney JT8D aircraft engines.

Who it affects: Airlines and aircraft operators using Pratt & Whitney JT8D turbine engines (common in older Boeing 727 and 737 models).

What it means: As of 4 January 2010, you no longer need to follow the Australian inspection requirements for second-stage fan blades that were mandated in the previous version of this rule (AD/JT8D/16 Amendment 2).

Why: The old Australian rule referred to an American FAA directive from 1987. The FAA issued a new directive in November 2009 that supersedes the old one. Under Australian law, when the country of manufacture (the "State of Design") issues a new safety directive after 1 October 2009, it automatically applies in Australia. This makes the old separate Australian requirement redundant, so the Civil Aviation Safety Authority is cancelling it to avoid duplication.
