Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This directive requires operators of Pratt & Whitney JT8D engines with certain second‑stage fan blades to inspect blade root attachments for cracking using fluorescent penetrant inspection per the manufacturer's service bulletin (unless CASA approves an alternative). The initial inspection must occur before 10,000 flight cycles (or under the prior rule’s check) and repeat every 10,000 cycles. It aims to detect cracks early and prevent catastrophic engine failure.
