| Background: | On the 17th August 2012 Jabiru Aircraft Pty Ltd released Service Bulletin JSB 033-1 instructing the replacement of Type A circlips manufactured to the JIS B 2804 specification which were supplied in engines and as spare parts piston kit P/N T4A543A0D.Testing and service experience has shown that the affected Type A (JIS B 2804) circlips are unusually sensitive to installation techniques, causing the circlip to migrate in service leading to catastrophic engine damage.Piston kits P/N T4A543A0D, which include the Type A circlip have been subsequently issued to Jabiru operators worldwide. A possibility exists that a type certified engine may become contaminated with an affected Type A circlip should piston kit P/N T4A543A0D have been installed. The Service Bulletin referenced in this Airworthiness Directive requires the replacement of Type A circlips. This Airworthiness Directive also instructs that all Type A circlips held as spares should be discarded, and prohibits the installation of all Type A circlips as described in Service Bulletin JSB 033-1. |
