Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This amendment requires operators of McDonnell Douglas (Hughes) and Kawasaki 369D/E/F/FF helicopters fitted with specified main transmission assemblies or spares to inspect the main transmission output‑shaft ring‑gear carrier for cracks, following McDonnell Douglas service instructions. It mandates an initial inspection within 100 flight hours after 10 March 1988, recurring checks every 300 hours, and inspection of spare parts before installation. Operators bear inspection and repair costs; the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) requires and enforces compliance. Background: the amendment adds parts after the manufacturer extended the output‑shaft part‑number range.
