Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive orders owners/operators of certain McDonnell Douglas (Hughes) 500D helicopters to inspect two critical flight‑control fittings—the collective torque‑tube lug and the collective bungee support bracket—for cracks, damage, or reduced web thickness. Inspections must be done within 100 flight hours after June 30, 1980. It clarifies affected serial numbers and references an updated technical manual because bracket failure could cause loss of rotor control.
