Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety directive (called an Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) that requires helicopter operators to inspect a specific mechanical part—the tail rotor drive shaft damper.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of specific McDonnell Douglas (Hughes) and Kawasaki 369 Series Helicopters. The directive lists exact serial numbers that must comply, including:

Model 369HS: S/No. 0661S, 0662S, 0668S, and many others through 0845S
Model 369HM: S/No. 0260M through 0292M (specific ranges listed)

What you must do: Inspect the tail rotor drive shaft damper following the exact procedures in Hughes Service Information Notice No. HN-110. The directive itself doesn't spell out the inspection steps—it legally mandates that you must follow that specific manufacturer's document.

Why it matters: This ensures the tail rotor system (which keeps the helicopter stable and prevents it from spinning) remains airworthy and safe to operate.
