Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: This is a mandatory aviation safety rule requiring regular inspections of a specific helicopter component to prevent mechanical failure.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of Schweizer (Hughes) 269 series helicopters fitted with a belt drive idler pulley assembly (part number 269A5447 series).

What must be done: The idler pulley support bracket must be inspected for cracking damage every 100 hours of flight time ("time in service"), with the first inspection due by 30 September 1982.

Why it matters: Two cases of cracking were reported in these brackets. If the bracket fails, it could compromise the helicopter's drive belt system and endanger the aircraft.
