Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive (AD) is a mandatory safety instruction requiring owners and operators of specific Schweizer (formerly Hughes) 269 series helicopters to inspect critical rotating components.

What must be done:

Inspect the main rotor hub and shaft assemblies bearing part numbers 269A5305 and 269A5305-9
Follow the inspection procedures detailed in Hughes Service Information Notice (SIN) No. N-93

Which aircraft are affected:

Model 269A (serial numbers 0011 and onwards)
Model 269A-1 (serial numbers 0001 to 0041)
Model 269B (serial numbers 0001 to 0451)
Model 269C (serial numbers 0001 to 0100)

Compliance deadline: Within 50 hours of flight time after 14 October 1971.

Why this matters: The main rotor hub and shaft are critical components that keep the helicopter airborne. This directive addresses potential defects that could lead to catastrophic rotor failure and loss of the aircraft if not detected.
