Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This AD makes a previously recommended modification mandatory for British Aerospace HS 748 aeroplanes that do not have Mod 5244: operators must carry out Jetstream Aircraft Service Bulletin HS748‑27‑70 Rev 2 (installing rubbing strips/guards at the rear spar near aileron cable turnbuckles) before 1 May 1995. Issued under the Civil Aviation Safety Authority schedule, it responds to an incident where an under‑tensioned aileron cable fouled wing structure and converts the SB into a compulsory safety action.

AD/HS 748/3 Aileron Cable Pulley Guard 12/94

Applicability: Model HS748 aircraft without Mod 5244 incorporated.

Requirement: Action in accordance with Jetstream Aircraft Service Bulletin HS748-27-70 Rev 2.

Note: UK CAA AD 009-05-94 refers.

Compliance: Prior to 1 May 1995.

Background: The UK CAA requires incorporation of a modification which installs rubbing strips at the rear spar adjacent to where the aileron cable loop turnbuckles are located. This action is required because of an incident where the turnbuckle of an under-tensioned aileron cable fouled a lightening hole in the wing trailing edge structure.
