Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This AD applies to all Hawker Siddeley HS 748s and requires operators to treat the nose-gear retraction jack bracket mounting bolts as lifed items and replace them per British Aerospace Mandatory Service Bulletin 53/16 Rev 3 before each bolt reaches 3,000 flights. Issued because fatigue testing and in-service distortion show limited bolt life, the rule forces recurring replacements, record‑keeping and parts/procurement burdens on operators, with associated maintenance cost and downtime.

Bracket Mounting Bolts

2/95

Applicability: All HS748 aircraft.

Requirement: The nose landing gear retraction jack bracket mounting bolts are lifed items and shall be replaced in accordance with British Aerospace Mandatory Service Bulletin 53/16 Revision 3.

Note: CAA (UK) AD 0115 refers.

Compliance: Replace bolts before they achieve 3000 flights.

Background: Fatigue tests have shown that the nose landing gear retraction jack bracket mounting bolts are too highly loaded to attain a long fatigue life. Distortion of the bolts has been experienced on aircraft in service.
