What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD), labelled AD/HS 125/177 and dated 4/2006 DM, requires inspection and corrective action on the hydraulic over-temperature switch electrical circuit fuse on specified Raytheon Model Hawker 800XP aeroplanes. The instrument applies to a discrete set of serial numbers: "Raytheon Model Hawker 800XP aeroplanes, serial numbers 258541, 258556, and 258567 through 258713 inclusive," (Applicability). It mandates a general visual inspection to determine whether a 20-amp fuse is installed in the specified circuit on panel ZK in the rear equipment bay, and, if found, mandates replacement with a 3-amp fuse following the Accomplishment Instructions of Raytheon Service Bulletin SB 24-3724, dated May 2005. The Directive further requires that any signs of damage discovered during inspection be referred to the Raytheon Aircraft Company for applicable repair actions and that the specified repairs be carried out.
Timing and sequencing are explicit. For Requirement 1 (the inspection) the AD prescribes compliance "Within 50 flight hours or 30 days after the effective date of this Directive, whichever occurs first." For Requirement 2 and 3 (replacement and repair) the AD requires they be carried out "Before further flight after the Requirement 1 inspection." The Directive also records its effective date: "This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 24 February 2006." The document identifies the issuing authority by name and office, showing the action originates from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) delegate.
The stated safety rationale in the AD's Background section is that the incorrect installation of a higher-rated fuse (20-amp) could prevent the fuse from blowing under over-temperature conditions, leading to heat damage to wiring and surrounding equipment and, potentially, "smoke or fire on the aeroplane." The AD also notes coordination with an FAA action, referring explicitly to "FAA AD 2006-02-03 Amdt 39-14455."
