Plain English Summary

3/10 complexity

This AD requires owners/operators of Grob G115 and G115A aircraft to replace aileron control rods (115‑4400/4401) with modified parts (115‑4410/4411) per Grob SB1078‑14, render removed original rods unserviceable, and complete the change within 20 hours TIS after the 18 June 1998 effective date. It shifts cost and scheduling burdens to operators to address a distortion risk that could interfere with proper flight control.

Applicability: Model G115 and G115A, all serial numbers.

Requirement: Replace aileron control rods no. 1 (part number 115-4400/4401) with modified aileron control rods no. 1 (part number 115-4410/4411) in accordance with Grob Service Bulletin (SB)1078-14.

Note 1: LBA AD 90-229 refers.

Note 2: Aileron control rods (part number 115-4400/4401) removed from aircraft or in storage should be rendered unserviceable or destroyed.

Compliance: Unless already accomplished, replace within 20 hours time in service after 18 June 1998.

This airworthiness directive becomes effective on 18 June 1998.

Background: Application of high control forces can distort the aileron control rod no. 1 (part number 115-4400/4401), interfering with proper control of the aircraft. This directive requires installation of a modified control rod with an additional stop to prevent damage during operation.
