This document officially cancels a previous aviation safety rule about checking aircraft controls.

What it is: An Airworthiness Directive (AD) is a mandatory safety notice issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) to fix unsafe conditions in aircraft. This document is Amendment 3 to AD/GENERAL/56.

What it does:

Cancels the requirement for 'duplicate inspections' (having two different people independently check the same work) on cable-operated aircraft control systems
Removes the legal obligation for aircraft operators to perform these double-checks
Took effect on 19 January 2006

Why it matters: CASA reviewed Service Difficulty Reports (SDRs — formal reports filed when aircraft components fail or show defects) and discovered that these duplicate inspections weren't actually catching the problems they were designed to find (misrigged control cables during assembly). Because the rule wasn't improving safety, they cancelled it to reduce unnecessary regulatory burden on the aviation industry.
