Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This rule prevents refuelling fires by requiring aircraft to have electrical bonding points at each fuel tank filling point (so static can be discharged before the cap is removed) and a clearly marked external earthing point for ground cables. (If the refuelling hose coupling is fully metal and makes the connection automatically, a separate bonding point isn’t required.)

It applies to all aircraft registered in Australia to eliminate static-spark ignition of fuel vapours.
