Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this means: This safety rule requires aircraft owners to keep stored microphones at least 38 cm (15 inches) away from magnetic compasses.

Why it matters: Microphones contain magnets that can interfere with compass readings, potentially causing dangerous navigation errors.

Who must comply: All aircraft where the microphone storage location is currently closer than 38 cm (15 inches) to any direct-reading magnetic compass.

What must be done: Either move the microphone stowage (storage location) or relocate the compass to achieve the required separation. If modifications affect compass accuracy, you must also follow the calibration requirements in Air Navigation Order Section 108.6.

Compliance deadline: Before 1 May 1968.
