What it does
This instrument is an airworthiness directive (AD/G1159/35 Amdt 1) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and effective 22 December 2009 (stamped 11 December 2009 by William David, Delegate of CASA). It continues mandatory, repetitive operational checks of the takeoff warning system on specified Gulfstream/Grumman aeroplane models, extends the original AD’s applicability, requires repair of any non‑functioning systems discovered by those checks, and imposes a modification requirement for certain G‑IV aeroplanes.
Mechanically, the AD does four things, as framed in the text under "Requirement":
- It mandates specific operational checks of the takeoff warning system for each affected model, using identified Gulfstream service documents: for Model G‑II and G‑IIB follow Gulfstream Customer Bulletin (CB) No. 388, Amendment 1, dated 15 August 1989; for Model G‑III follow CB No. 106 dated 1 May 1989; for Model G‑IV follow Gulfstream Aircraft Service Change (ASC) No. 122 dated 31 May 1989 (Requirement 1, whole).
- It requires repair of non‑functioning systems uncovered by those checks in accordance with the same CB or ASC documents (Requirement 2).
- It requires, for Model G‑IV aeroplanes, modification of the takeoff warning range indication system where that modification has not previously been done, in accordance with ASC No. 122 (Requirement 3).
- It recognises later revisions of the cited CB(s) or ASC as acceptable where those revisions have been approved by the United States Federal Aviation Administration as Alternate Methods of Compliance to FAA AD 90‑02‑05 Amdt 39‑6472 (see the paragraph beginning "Later revision(s) of the above CB(s) or ASC ...").
The AD sets compliance timing. Where repetitive checks are already being accomplished under AD/G1159/35 or FAA AD 90‑02‑05, the AD requires continuation at intervals not to exceed 150 hours time‑in‑service (TIS). Where such repetitive checks are not already in place, an initial check must be done within 25 hours TIS after the amendment’s effective date and thereafter at intervals not to exceed 150 hours TIS. Repairs required by Requirement 2 must be carried out after the Requirement 1 operational check. The G‑IV modification (Requirement 3) must be accomplished within 25 hours TIS after the effective date unless it has already been completed (Compliance paragraphs).
