Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does: Requires a mandatory safety inspection of the control wheel attaching shaft on specific Gulfstream business jets to prevent the steering wheel detaching from the control column during flight.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of all Gulfstream G1159 model aircraft (including G-IV series).

What must be done: Inspect the control column wheel attaching shaft (the component connecting the pilot's yoke to the steering column) following the technical procedures in Gulfstream American Customer Bulletin No. 295.

Why it matters: A pilot's control wheel physically separated from the control column during a landing approach in a serious overseas incident. This directive prevents potentially catastrophic loss of control.

Compliance deadline: The inspection must be completed within 100 hours of flight time after 31 July 1980.
