Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What it is: This is a mandatory safety notice (called an Airworthiness Directive) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. It has the force of law for aircraft owners and operators.

What it requires: Owners or operators of specific Gulfstream (Grumman) aeroplanes (models G1159 and G-IV with serial numbers 1–135 and 775) must have their aircraft's flight control trim systems (the mechanisms that adjust the aeroplane's control surfaces to maintain stable flight without constant pilot input) inspected and modified.

How to comply: The inspection and modification must be carried out exactly as specified in a technical document called Grumman Aircraft Service Change No. 168. The work must be completed within 150 hours of flying time after 29 March 1974.

Why it matters: This directive mandates a specific safety fix to prevent potential failures in the trim system that could affect the pilot's ability to control the aircraft safely.
