What it does
This instrument is an Airworthiness Directive (AD) directed at Fokker F50 (F27 Mk 50) series aeroplanes that mandates specific corrective and preventive actions for Electrical Power Contactors part number SG02206. It requires removal of standard nuts and lock washers from those contactors, installation of new self‑locking nuts, and performance of applicable tests on the AC Bus Transfer System in accordance with Fokker Services SBF50-24-031 dated 29 January 2008 or a later revision approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). As an alternative method of compliance, the AD accepts the replacement of the SG02206 contactors with improved versions in accordance with Fokker Service Bulletin SBF50-24-030 dated 6 November 2003 or later EASA‑approved revision, provided the replacement is accomplished within 36 months after the Directive’s effective date.
The AD also imposes a prohibition on installing unmodified SG02206 contactors as replacement parts unless the contactor has been modified in accordance with Goodrich Power Systems Service Bulletin SG02206-24-01 dated 4 March 2008 or later EASA‑approved revision. The compliance window for the removal and nut replacement is within 36 calendar months after the AD’s effective date. The prohibition on installing unmodified SG02206 contactors applies after 31 May 2011. The Directive became effective on 31 July 2008 and is issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, signed by James Coyne as delegate, dated 13 June 2008.
Mechanically, the AD converts technical service-bulletin content into mandatory airworthiness requirements for Australian‑registered aircraft within the stated applicability, conditions the acceptability of certain replacement parts on specified modifications, and anchors compliance to EASA‑approved revisions of the referenced service bulletins.
