What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD), issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and signed by David Punshon as Delegate, imposes a mandatory inspection and corrective-action requirement for a subset of Dassault Falcon 2000 aeroplanes. The Directive applies to Falcon 2000 aircraft serial numbers 01 to 210 inclusive that are fitted with a third crew member control panel (the applicability statement in the AD). Unless the inspection and any required corrective actions have already been accomplished, operators must carry out a detailed inspection of the air gasper installation in the third crew member control panel located in both the left-hand (LH) and right-hand (RH) crew closets, looking specifically for interference and/or damage (Requirement). Where defects are found, the operator must perform the applicable related corrective actions as instructed in the accomplishment instructions of Dassault Aviation Service Bulletin F2000-316 dated 27 July 2005 (Requirement). The AD permits the use of later revisions of that service bulletin provided those revisions are approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) (Requirement).
The AD sets a firm compliance window: the inspection and any corrective actions must be completed within seven months after the Directive’s effective date. The AD states it becomes effective on 13 March 2008, which provides a clear compliance deadline (Compliance). The Directive includes a factual background stating the manufacturer received reports of smoke from the crew closet area and that investigation revealed a potential for chafing between the rheostat of the third crew member control panel reading light and the air gasper flexible hose or adjacent electrical wires; uncorrected chafing could expose the metallic spiral armature of the hose or damage wire insulation, possibly producing a short-circuit, sustained overheating and smoke emission (Background). The AD refers explicitly to EASA AD 2008-0013 (Requirement/Note).
