What it does
This instrument is an Airworthiness Directive (AD) directed at Dassault Falcon 2000 series aeroplanes that are fitted with specific wing anti-ice telescopic tubes. Mechanically, it requires removal and modification of the affected telescopic tubes (Part Numbers 5035-400 and 5035-500) in accordance with the Zodiac service bulletins specified in the AD (Zodiac SB 5035-30-001 and 5035-30-002). It also bars the installation of an affected telescopic tube P/N 5035-400 or 5035-500 as a replacement part unless that tube has been modified as instructed in those Zodiac service bulletins (Requirement).
The AD sets explicit life limits and compliance windows. It requires modification before a tube exceeds 2,400 flight hours (FH) or 2,000 flight cycles (FC) time-in-service (TIS) since new, whichever occurs first. For tubes that have already exceeded, or will exceed, those limits within the next 330 FH or seven months after the AD’s effective date, the AD requires modification within 330 FH or seven months, whichever occurs first. The AD gives two dates of operational effect: the AD becomes effective on 23 November 2006 (the “effective date”), and the Compliance section includes the line “From 16 April 2007.” The AD also notes that EASA AD 2006-0276 dated 6 September 2006 is related (Note).
The AD states its safety rationale in technical terms. The Background describes temperature-induced cracking of the Kynel sealing rings in the ball joints of the telescopic tubes, leading to binding and high swivelling forces, improper operation of slats, and possible failure of the ball joint mounting bracket with potential friction on the aileron control rod. The Background explicitly links those failures to a realistic hazardous outcome: if combined with a failure of the aileron emergency actuator, aileron jamming could result. The AD frames its purpose as ensuring “that no old type sealing rings remain in operation beyond a life limit of 2,400 flight hours or 2,000 flight cycles” by mandating the modification in accordance with the Zodiac service bulletins (Background).
