What it does
This instrument is an airworthiness directive amendment addressing moisture ingress and consequent icing risk in the wing-to-fuselage fairing area of Fokker F100 series aeroplanes (F.28 Mk.0100 and Mk.0070). Mechanically, it requires a physical inspection of the aerodynamic seal between the wing-to-fuselage fairings and the adjacent fuselage skin, followed by the application of an improved fillet seal in accordance with the Accomplishment Instructions of Fokker Services SBF100-53-107 dated 26 February 2008, or any later revision that has EASA approval (see “Requirement”). The directive sets a fixed compliance window: the work must be done within 12 calendar months after 3 July 2008, and the amendment itself became effective on 3 July 2008 (see “Compliance”).
The document explicitly applies to both Model F.28 Mk.0100 and Mk.0070 aircraft, all serial numbers (see “Applicability”), and the amendment (Amendment 1) adds a one-time inspection and sealing task prompted by new reports of moisture in the affected area (see “Background”). The text also cross-references EASA AD 2008-0079 (see “Requirement: Note”), and states that the actions are intended to prevent rainwater, wash-water, or de-icing fluid leaking onto aileron pulleys located in the main landing gear wheel bays, which had been associated with in-flight roll control difficulties due to icing (see “Background”).
The directive is issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, signed by its delegate, and dated 16 May 2008. The operative duties and technical method are set by reference to the Fokker Services service bulletin (SBF100-53-107), not by detailed technical steps in this text. The AD therefore operates by imposing a mandatory inspection-and-modification obligation framed as compliance with an external service document and a specified deadline.
