What it does
This instrument is an Airworthiness Directive (AD) addressed to Embraer ERJ-170 series aeroplanes fitted with specific firewall hydraulic shutoff valves (FWSOV). It requires operators to perform an operational check of the FWSOV in accordance with Embraer Service Bulletin No. 170-29-0013 (original issue, 12 December 2006) or later revisions approved by Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (ANAC). If a valve fails the operational check, the AD requires replacement with a serviceable FWSOV. The AD identifies the affected parts as P/N 975287-3 or P/N 975287-5 (Applicability; Requirement).
The compliance cadence is explicitly flight-hour based: the AD mandates completion of the initial operational check within the next 600 flight hours after 7 June 2007, and thereafter at intervals not exceeding 600 flight hours (Compliance). The amendment materials note three effective dates: the original AD became effective 7 June 2007, Amendment 1 became effective 25 October 2007, and this Amendment 2 became effective 24 September 2009 (Background; header dates; signature block).
Mechanically, Amendment 2 removes a prior requirement to replace a faulty FWSOV with another valve bearing the same part number (Background; amendment note). It also adds the concrete definition of a “suitable FWSOV”: a valve P/N 975287-3 or P/N 975287-5 that has passed the operational check described in Embraer SB No.170-29-0013, or the replacement of these valves by others bearing a new part number (Requirement). The AD explicitly defines the operational check as “a task to determine that an item is fulfilling its intended purpose. The check does not require quantitative tolerances. This is a failure finding task” (Requirement).
The AD cross-references ANAC Airworthiness Directive AD No. 2007-02-01R2 dated 17 July 2009 (Requirement, Note). The instrument is issued under the authority of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), signed by a delegate, James Coyne (signature block).
