Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

This is a mandatory aviation safety order issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) for all Piel Emeraude series aircraft. It requires owners and operators to immediately install anti-spin strakes (small aerodynamic fins attached to the airframe that disrupt airflow and help prevent the aircraft from entering a dangerous spinning stall) on all models of this aircraft type.

Key points:

Who it affects: Anyone who owns or operates a Piel Emeraude series aeroplane in Australia
What must be done: Fit anti-spin strakes designed to an approved standard
When: Immediately ('forthwith' means without delay)

Why it matters: Spinning stalls are a significant cause of fatal accidents in light aircraft. This directive addresses a known flight characteristic issue with this aircraft design, mandating a physical modification to improve safety and prevent loss of control.
