What it does
This instrument is Amendment 1 to Airworthiness Directive AD/EMB-120/45, issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and effective 23 October 2008. It continues and slightly adjusts the compliance timing of a previous directive (the original issue effective 7 June 2007) concerning the stall warning computer installations on Embraer EMB-120 (Brasilia) series aeroplanes.
Mechanically, the AD imposes two concrete obligations on operators of all EMB-120( ) model aeroplanes. Requirement 1 mandates replacement of the existing stall warning computers with "new improved versions" in strict accordance with Embraer Service Bulletin (SB) 120-27-0092 Revision 01 dated 29 December 2006, or a later revision approved by Brazil's Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil (ANAC). Note 1 makes that conditional on a preparatory action: before installing the improved units, the detailed instructions and procedures in Embraer SB 120-27-0091 Revision 02 dated 29 September 2003, or later ANAC-approved revisions, must be accomplished. Requirement 2 prohibits operation of EMB-120( ) aeroplanes with stall warning computers bearing part numbers C-81806-1 Mod. A, C-81806-2 Mod. A or C-81806-3 installed; the prohibition is tied to the compliance timing described below.
The AD preserves the original compliance timing for Requirement 1, namely "within the next 36 calendar months after the effective date of the original issue of this Directive (7 June 2007)". That yields a compliance window ending on or about 7 June 2010. The AD aligns Requirement 2 with that date, stating "For Requirement 2 - After 7 June 2010", and the textual background explains that this Amendment "extends the compliance for Requirement 2 by 28 days to align with the Requirement 1 compliance date." The AD refers to ANAC AD 2007-03-03 and requires that any later revisions of the cited Embraer SBs be approved by ANAC before they may be relied on to meet the AD.
