Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This directive requires aircraft maintenance crews to inspect Sonotone and Marathon CA-9/MA-9 nickel‑cadmium batteries for lid‑seal damage and banned "Double D" washers (part 23591‑1), remove any found, clean connectors, and reinstall using only the specified Belleville spring washers torqued to 35–50 in‑lb. It affects operators and maintenance personnel and aims to eliminate a washer‑related failure mode that could compromise battery reliability in flight.
