Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: A mandatory safety inspection rule for specific aircraft ignition systems.

Who it affects: Anyone operating aircraft fitted with S600 Series Bendix Scintilla magnetos (ignition components) that have distributor gears with part numbers 10-357060 or 10-357060A.

What it requires:

Inspect the distributor gear regularly for defects or wear
How often: Every 100 hours of flight time ("time in service")
How long: Keep doing these checks until you replace the gear with an improved version (part number 10-357060B)

Why it matters: The distributor gear is a critical moving part that can fail and cause engine stoppage or misfire. This rule catches potential failures before they happen in flight, based on manufacturer service bulletin No. 510.

In simple terms: If your plane has this specific magneto model, you must check its internal gear every 100 flying hours until you upgrade to the safer part.
