What it does
This instrument is an Airworthiness Directive (AD) directed at EUROCOPTER AS 350 (Ecureuil) series helicopters that are fitted with certain GOODRICH main and tail rotor servo-controls. Mechanically, it mandates identification of affected servo-controls by part number (P/N) and serial number (S/N), requires enhanced pre-flight attention to detect a control “hard point”, demands replacement of defective or listed servo-controls within specified timeframes, and prohibits installation of the listed servo-controls unless they have been returned to conformity by the equipment manufacturer. The AD cross-references EUROCOPTER Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) No. 01.00.58 Revision 1 (or a later National Aviation Authority approved revision) for the detailed inspection and replacement procedures, and it notes EASA Emergency AD 2007-0141-E as a related document (see Requirement and Applicability).
The AD identifies precisely which servo-controls are covered by listing multiple P/Ns and S/Ns for both main-rotor and tail-rotor servo-controls (Applicability). It requires either a physical inspection of the helicopter to verify P/N and S/N according to ASB paragraph 1.E.2, or, alternatively, a records review that positively determines each P/N and S/N (Requirement para 1). Where a listed servo-control is present, operators must (a) check thoroughly for any “hard point” in the flight controls, (b) if a hard point is detected, replace the defective servo-control(s) as instructed in ASB paragraph 2.B., and (c) replace all servo-controls identified in the applicability as instructed in ASB paragraph 2.B. (Requirement para 2). The AD also prohibits installation of any of the listed servo-controls on any AS 350 helicopter unless the servo-control has been returned to conformity by the equipment manufacturer as indicated in paragraph 2 of the ASB (Requirement para 3). Compliance deadlines are specified: some actions are required before further flight (immediate), some during each pre-flight test until replacements are completed, and others within 50 flight hours or 4 months after the effective date, whichever occurs first (Compliance).
