What it does
This instrument is an airworthiness directive (AD) addressing fatigue cracking and failure of the sliding door rear roller support pin and associated rear attaching fittings on specific Eurocopter AS 350 (Ecureuil) series helicopters. It applies to Model AS 350 versions B, BA, BB, B1, B2, B3 and D that are equipped with sliding doors installed prior to MOD 073298 (left hand) and/or MOD 073308 (right hand) (Applicability). The AD requires repetitive inspections of the rear roller support shaft and rear fitting(s) for cracks, replacement of identified components with improved parts, and places installation prohibitions on certain sliding door assemblies and specific part numbers unless modification or replacement requirements have been met (Requirement; Compliance).
Mechanically, the AD directs operators to:
- Inspect the support shaft of the rear roller and the rear fitting of the sliding door(s) for cracks in accordance with paragraph 2.B. of Eurocopter AS 350 Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) No. 05.00.47 original issue, or later EASA-approved revision (Requirement 1).
- Replace the roller support shaft and fitting(s) of left and/or right sliding doors in accordance with paragraph 2.B. of ASB No. 52.00.30 original issue, or later EASA-approved revision (Requirement 2).
- Prohibit installation, on any AS 350 helicopter, of sliding doors listed in paragraph 1.A.2. of ASB No. 52.00.30 Revision 1 (or later), unless those sliding doors have been modified per MOD 073298 for left-hand doors and per MOD 073308 for right-hand doors in accordance with ASB No. 52.00.30 Revision 1 (Requirement).
- Prohibit installation of specified roller pins and cast roller support fittings by part number: roller pins 350A25-1275-20 and cast roller support fittings 350A25-1270-20 and 350A25-1270-22 (Requirement).
