What it does
This Airworthiness Directive (AD/EC 120/12 Amdt 1, dated 10/2005 and effective 29 September 2005) mandates inspection and removal actions for a specific right-hand collective lever-to-torque tube connecting part fitted to Eurocopter EC 120 B helicopters. The AD identifies three affected part numbers, C671C4101202, C671C4101203, and C671C4101204, and excludes helicopters with serial number 1383 and subsequent from applicability. The Directive requires an initial inspection to check the tightening torque load of the connecting-part attachment bolts and a visual check of the connecting part for cracks, in accordance with paragraph 2.B.2 of Eurocopter EC 120 Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) No. 67A014, and mandates removal from service of the listed connecting parts by a specified date. If the torque is above the set limit (8 Nm) or if any crack is detected, the Directive requires replacement of the affected connecting part before further flight, following the procedures in paragraphs 2.B.3.a and 2.B.3.b of ASB No. 67A014. The AD also records that accomplishing Service Bulletin No. 67-017 constitutes terminating action for the Directive’s requirements. The Compliance section sets two deadlines: the inspection in Requirement 1 must be completed within 10 flight hours after 3 March 2004, and the removal from service required by Requirement 2 must be completed before 1 May 2006. The AD identifies its origin as a report of a failure of the right-hand collective lever-to-torque tube connecting part detected on the ground with the rotor stopped, and states that Amendment 1 implements changes in response to DGAC AD F-2005-086, including replacing an alert telex with an alert service bulletin, extending applicability to an additional part number, introducing the optional terminating action, and requiring removal from service of the affected parts. The AD is signed by David Villiers, Delegate of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority, dated 9 August 2005.
