Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this is: An Airworthiness Directive (a mandatory safety order) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) under the Civil Aviation Regulations 1998.

Who it affects: Owners and operators of specific vintage aircraft engines: the De Havilland Gipsy Queen 70, 70-2, and 70-3 models that haven't been modified to 'Mod. G1704', plus any Gipsy Queen 70 series engines fitted with single-piece barrel propellers.

What it requires: If you operate one of these engines, you must immediately ('forthwith') comply with engine speed restrictions detailed in two specific technical documents: either De Havilland Special Propeller Technical Instruction No. 23, or Airworthiness Notice 106.1.7.6.1, Issue 2. Essentially, you're required to limit how fast the engine can run to prevent safety issues with the propeller.

Why it matters: This is a compulsory safety measure. Non-compliance means you cannot legally operate the aircraft, as these directives are legally binding under Commonwealth aviation law.
