Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What it is: An Airworthiness Directive (mandatory safety rule) issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) under the Civil Aviation Regulations.

What it does: Requires the replacement of gudgeon pins (the metal pins connecting pistons to connecting rods) in De Havilland Gipsy Queen 70 Series Mark 1 aircraft engines.

Who it affects: Owners, operators, and maintenance engineers dealing with these specific vintage piston engines (commonly found in older aircraft like the DH Dove).

Key requirements:

The replacement must be carried out in accordance with technical specifications in either De Havilland Modification G2249 or Airworthiness Notice Order 106.1.7.6.5.11.
Compliance is mandatory before the engine is installed in an aircraft.

Why it matters: This is a legally binding safety directive. It is illegal to install or operate an affected engine in an Australian aircraft without completing this gudgeon pin replacement.
