Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

What this does: This is a mandatory safety directive requiring a specific mechanical modification to certain aircraft engines before they can be flown. It targets the "sun gear distance piece" — an internal component in the engine's gearbox — in De Havilland Gipsy Queen 70 series engines (used in some older British aircraft) that have already undergone Modification G1213.

Who it affects: Aircraft owners, operators, and maintenance engineers working on planes fitted with these specific engines.

What you must do: Before installing one of these engines into an aircraft, you must ensure the sun gear distance piece has been modified according to either:

De Havilland Modification G1329, or
British Airworthiness Notice 106.1.7.6.5.6

Why it matters: This ensures a critical engine component meets updated safety standards to prevent mechanical failures that could affect flight safety.
