| Background: | Investigation by the manufacturer of an in-flight incident of failure of the cockpit door alternate release mechanism has revealed a serious design deficiency. This Directive requires incorporation of a modification to correct the design deficiency.Amendment 1 extended the compliance time. An All Operator Message from the manufacturer gave further instructions to operators regarding a redesign of the door hinges because the existing modification was not satisfactory under all conditions. |
| Amendment 2 again extended the compliance due to further difficulty with the modification, and introduced a post mod repetitive inspection, which will deal with the shortcoming of the modification until such time as terminating action is determined.Amendment 3 amended applicability due to the installation of new reinforced cockpit doors.Amendment 4 is issued in response to a revision of the related Transport Canada AD, which amends applicability to exempt new reinforced cockpit doors that are not subject to the alternate release jamming issue. |
