Plain English Summary

1/10 complexity

What this does This is a mandatory safety order (an Airworthiness Directive) for all DHC-6 Twin Otter aircraft. It requires a specific inspection of the elevator connecting rods—the mechanical linkages that connect the pilot's control column to the elevator on the tail—to ensure they are not defective or worn.

Who must comply Owners and operators of all DHC-6 (Twin Otter) series aircraft.

What you must do

Inspect every elevator connecting rod using the exact method described in De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Service Bulletin No. 6/238.
Exception: You do not need to inspect rods that have already been subjected to a "detailed inspection" (an intensive examination meeting aviation standards) prior to this directive.

When Within 25 hours of flight time after 14 February 1972.

Why it matters Detecting cracks or wear in these critical control linkages prevents potential catastrophic failure of the aircraft's pitch controls.
