Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive (AD) mandates safety checks on the tailplane hinge bolts of De Havilland Canada DHC-3 "Otter" aircraft.

What it requires:

Aircraft owners/operators must follow the instructions in De Havilland Canada Service Bulletin No 3/14 (likely involving inspection or replacement of the bolts that attach the tailplane to the fuselage).
When: First compliance within 100 hours of flying time after 30 June 1971, then repeated every 800 hours of flying time thereafter.

Who it affects: Anyone operating DHC-3 (Otter) series aircraft in Australia.

Why it matters: Tailplane hinge bolts are critical structural components. If they fail, the pilot could lose control of the aircraft's pitch, leading to catastrophic accidents.
