Plain English Summary

2/10 complexity

This Airworthiness Directive mandates an immediate safety inspection of the interplane struts on all de Havilland DH89A and Dominie aircraft—twin-engine biplanes from the 1930s-40s.

What it requires:

Who: Owners and operators of these specific vintage aircraft models (including the Dragon Rapide).
What: Inspect the interplane struts—the structural support posts connecting the upper and lower wings (critical for keeping the wings attached and stable during flight).
How: Follow the detailed inspection procedures in either DH Technical Circular No. 54 or Airworthiness Notice 105.1.14.10.6.2 (external technical documents referenced but not included here).
When: Immediately ("forthwith")—meaning before the next flight, without delay.

Why it matters: This is a mandatory safety order. If an interplane strut fails in flight, the wing structure could collapse. This directive likely responds to discovered fatigue, corrosion, or manufacturing defects in these aging aircraft components.
